march wish list

I gave up shopping for Lent. (sad face).

It actually hasn't been that bad, but it's also not that much fun to troll the Internet looking for cool stuff when you know you can't buy any of it. Hence, the lack of "stuff" posts lately.  However I am only human, and if I see something that is especially fantastic, I am obviously going to make a note of it.

The new Gwyneth cookbook comes out April 2nd which is very exciting because I actually cook a lot of dishes from her first cookbook and they are reliably tasty and healthy. The dress is exactly like one I had years ago but lost so I'm thrilled to find a replacement. The necklace is spendy but amazing and reminds me of one that my mom always used to wear. The clutch...oh...the clutch. It's from Gap, it's $30, and comes in a bunch of other cute colors; it's  been the hardest to resist during my Lenten observance. I'd wear those sandals every day with every outfit if they were to somehow appear in my closet, and the lash enhancer is my own small way of resisting Botox. See how long and pretty my eyelashes are? You can barely see my wrinkles, right??

What are you shopping for lately?

closet strategy

I'm not the best at strategic shopping. I'm far more likely to buy a fun dress or go-to-hell pants on a whim than I am to invest in basics. I also dislike having a lot of clothes. The problems is, it can be hard to get dressed for an average Tuesday when you're staring at one too many hot pink blouses or pairs polka dot pants. It's all icing, no cake. In a way.
Anyway, I've been forcing myself to resist nonsense impulse purchases and instead keep a list of much-needed wardrobe staples.

Do you keep a list of items you need to round out your wardrobe, or do you buy what you like when you see it?

cozy {Sunday style}

On Saturday we spruced up the front yard, went for a family jog, tried to decide our favorite pumpkin beer and did a big Costco trip to get some yummy weekday lunches together.

Oh, and a little bit of college football here and there.

Today I plan on going to church (fingers crossed), writing some thank you notes, trying out this recipe for broccoli pesto and watching my current favorite nighttime show: Once Upon a Time.

This is my idea of the perfect Sunday outfit.

What are you up to this Sunday?

september wish list

Seriously, have you Floridians seen those
Hunter shoes? Finally! a solution to looking cute while it's raining but also still 100 degrees outside.

I downloaded Anna Quindlen's new memoir as a "Happy Birthday to Me" gift (it was yesterday!).

And- even though I spent 7 years (I loved first grade so much I did it twice) wearing peter pan collars as part of my elementary school uniform, I am surprisingly enthusiastic about this fall trend.

August wish list

This morning I asked my husband, "hey...do you feel that slight chill in the air? I think it's starting to feel like fall..." He just shook his head and looked at me like I'd asked if he was going to ride to work on a unicorn

So I guess that's a "no."

South Florida still has about 3+ months left of summer heat. This dress looks light-as-air and it's the perfect break from my August uniform of: shorts, shorts and more shorts.
